Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers Jesse Biddle and Nick Kingham, both of whom are recovering from Tommy John surgery, are making their way back during spring training.
According to beat writer Rob Biertempfel of TribLive:
Left-hander Jesse Biddle (Tommy John surgery) has begun throwing on flat ground. … Right-hander Nick Kingham, who had Tommy John surgery, is throwing off the slope of a mound.
Biddle had several dangerous flaws in his motion that contributed to his UCL tear, most notably his arm lagging far behind his body, lack of balance, and an extreme case of leading with the elbow. Hopefully he is working on correcting his flaws as part of his comeback.
Additionally, Biertemfel reports that lefty reliever Robert Zarate, who has elbow discomfort, played catch on flat ground.
Zarate is a non-roster invitee who was shut down due to “left lateral elbow discomfort” on February 28th. We’ll keep an eye on his elbow woes.
